Trevor Jones/NFVF
Scholar 2007-2008

I graduated from the University of KwaZulu, Natal, with an Honours degree in Creative Writing and Drama & Performance Studies. I then worked as a professional actor and playwright, performing single and double act plays at festivals like the Grahamstown National Arts Festival. In 2006 I wrote and appeared in Hot Report, for leading South African satellite channel M-NET’s EDIT Short Film Competition and was lucky enough to win the Best Writer Award.

For the last two years I have attended the NFTS on a scholarship, developing my writing skills and a wide assortment of ideas into scripts for shorts, features, TV and stage plays, even commercials. Principally, I am interested in comedy. I like to write about characters who are different from the masses: people on the fringes of society, people with unique talents or pastimes. I enjoy creating characters that exist on the extremes - be they recluses or over-achievers.

Now based in the UK, I am excited in pursuing my writing career in all mediums - be it film, television, theatre or radio.

Films at the NFTS include...

The Incredible Story of my Great Grandmother Olive   Student Academy Awards - Nominated for Honorary Foreign Film award
Phillip Mead (Feature screenplay)
Mala’ikah (Original TV series, co-written with Lorenzo Gangarossa)
Striklem (Short film)
RSVP (Short play)
Barnardo's: KidKong (Kodak Student Commercial 2008)
